Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy

Mental health disorders belong to the most common illnesses in Germany and worldwide. Our mission is to help people with mental disorders by providing the best possible diagnostics and treatment.

We provide long-standing expertise in research and clinical treatment of a broad spectrum of mental illnesses such as chronic depressive disorders, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders, substance use disorders and behavioral addictions, psychotic disorders, as well as personality, trauma-related and eating disorders.

Our Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy is part of the University of Lübeck. Housed in historical buildings built over a hundred years ago as the Strecknitz sanatorium, it essentially makes up the core of the University of Lübeck. As a University Department, we conduct research on mental illnesses and provide teaching for students and training for doctors and psychologists.

Our Department has 134 inpatient and 40 day care beds as well as a large outpatient clinic. We offer our patients treatment concepts that are tailored to their individual needs, whereby the main focus might be on psychotherapeutic or pharmacological treatment, or both.

To achieve these goals, our team of medical doctors, psychologists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and peer workers contribute with their diverse skills to treatment. Together with our patients, we work across all professional groups to maintain in the home environment the treatment successes achieved in the clinical context.

Our Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy consists of six inpatient units and two day care units as well as outpatient program , each specialising in treatment of specific mental disorders, covering a wide range of diagnoses and illness phases.
